About Me

Hello, my name is Andrea Stratton and I live in a beautiful village in West Sussex with my husband, two sons and my lovely dog Bertie. I am a lover of all things Interior Design & Style. I drive my husband mad with my cushion obsession, (in my opinion, you can never have enough) and he hates them!

I have pretty much lived and breathed Interior Design all of my life. My parents had an Interior Design and soft furnishings business and our family home was above their shop. I grew up surrounded by gorgeous Liberty fabrics, stunning Osbourne & Little wallpaper samples & pouring over GPJ Baker, Jane Churchill, Collier Campbell and many other Interior Design sample books, matching and making up colour schemes.

Rediscovering my passion

Fast forward a few years, and despite having an enjoyable career in travel, I felt continually drawn back to Interior Design and Styling. I have designed, styled, and decorated many rooms.

I have advised friends on countless occasions, influenced them, and given them ideas and the confidence to try something new. They often remarked on my natural vision and ability to know and advise what was required to pull a look together. “You should do this as a career!” they would say, but for some reason, I never let myself believe it could be possible and always viewed it as my passionate hobby.

My Style Description

My favoured style is Classic Modern. I love how this style is timeless and combines elements of both traditional and modern design.
I love natural woods, particularly light oak and old scrubbed pine, as well as painted wood.

My colour preferences tend to be classic heritage colours coupled with calming light neutral shades. I love how a dark or bright colour used through paint, textiles or artwork adds a statement and some drama to a room. I like to mix textures and finishes such as rattan or a gold metallic to add a striking contrast. I enjoy patterns, particularly florals, spots, and ticking stripes, but not all together. I adore the traditional William Morris Liberty prints and a glamorous statement wallpaper. I love wooden floors adorned with vintage, modern, and rustic rugs and a statement central light fitting. I like the warmth, history, and faded glamour created by modern vintage and the simplicity and lightness of classic modern rustic.

Embracing Vintage Revival & Transition to Interior Design

This was true until about 10 years ago when I got caught up in the wonderful world of Vintage Revival and discovered my passion and skill for up-cycling furniture and giving it a new lease on life! I ran a small business called “The Butterfly House,” an up-cycling vintage treasure and furniture transformation service, selling the wonderful Autentico Chalk Paint and running workshops on the art of painting furniture.

As more and more clients commissioned me to give their beautiful furniture a makeover, they also sought me out to advise on colour and how to get the best out of their homes. The penny finally dropped, and I realised my true soul purpose of being an Interior Designer and stylist. I cemented this passion by obtaining an accredited diploma in Interior Design with the National design Academy, and so, “Styling My Room” was born!
