Who would like to feel as HAPPY as possible in their home?!?
Check out my three top tips to give yourself and your home a lift this Autumn.
Tip 1 – Declutter
I don’t know about you but I love the new term feeling at the start of September. Whether you have kids at school or not there is a sense of new beginnings at this time of year. It is a great time to assess your home surroundings and make a list of improvements.
Is there a room that is cluttered and untidy? Does “that cupboard” the one we all have that is full of things we probably don’t need or know what to do with need sorting out? Start with one room at a time and really think about how you want to feel in that space and what activities need to happen in that room.
Be practical about your decisions. This could involve decluttering, fixing and replacing or moving furniture. Ultimately all of the above will help you feel happier in your home and will make your space work and function better for you!
Tip 2 – Colour psychology
Everyday our mood and energy is affected by the colours around us. Colours evoke feelings. It might be that you painted a room a colour because it’s the latest trend on Instagram but somehow every time you go in that room something feels off.
Try to identify how you would like to feel in your space. Do you want to feel cosy? Do you want to feel awake and energised or perhaps calm and restful in that room? What colours are you drawn to and think about how they make you feel. If a colour doesn’t make you feel good it’s not right no matter what the current trend is.
Tip 3 – Let the light in
Getting the right light in a room is crucial to how we feel in the space. Especially with so many of us now working from home. We need to feel energised during the day and more relaxed and sleepy during the evening. We need to trick our bodies, especially on the darker days.
The best way to achieve this is through lighting. Try to position your working area in as much natural sunlight as possible. For daytime use brighter, white bulbs in your ceiling, whilst for evening use lower, warmer bulbs in lamps. Strategically place these around the room at different levels to imitate the setting sun.
By using these clever lighting tricks it will help you to achieve optimum energy and rest within your home and will also help with your mental health and happiness.
